Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service scheduled

An ecumenical service in support of Christian unity will be held at 4 p.m. Jan. 29 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Carbondale. Bishop Edward K. Braxton asked as part of the Diocese of Belleville's 125th anniversary that each deanery hold a common week of prayer for Christian Unity, Father Bob Flannery, South Deanery dean and pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish, said. Father Flannery is the director of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the diocese.

Father Keith Roderick, pastor of St. Andrew Episcopal Parish in Carbondale will be the homilist for the occasion. A reception will be held immediately following the ecumenical service in Xaver Hall.
