Poll taken: Would you report someone shoplifting?

On this poll, we had a few surprising comments.

One man said he would consider reporting a shoplifter, but he would have to think about the consequences, i.e. whether they would have to go to court or whether they would be in some kind of danger from the shoplifter.

However, several men who had spent many years of their entire careers in retail in different parts of the diocese said they would most definitely report shoplifters.

One man said he saw a young college student trying on jeans and when she walked out of the store, she was wearing two pairs of jeans, one of them decidedly belonging to the store.

The folks in retail as well as other astute shoppers, said that if shoppers don’t report theft, eventually the theft will be reflected in higher prices for merchandise.

Also, one store detective said, unfortunately some of the store personnel — often those hired for seasonal jobs — are among the shoplifters.
