Two Men Ordained Transitional Deacons Nov. 25 at Cathedral

Steven Beatty of St. Mary Parish in Anna and Benjamin Stern of St. Bruno Parish in Pinckneyville were ordained transitional deacons at an 11 a.m. liturgy Nov. 25 at St. Peter Cathedral in Belleville.

Bishop Edward. K. Braxton, who was the celebrant and homilist at the Liturgy of Ordination, made the following observations about this important event in the life of our diocese.

“The Diocese of Belleville rejoices on this Vigil of the Feast of Christ the King, because we have ordained two young men as deacons in the Catholic Church. Over the past year and a half I have come to know Rev. Mr. Steven Beatty and Rev. Mr. Benjamin Stern rather well. During a very enjoyable visit at my residence prior to the ordination, I told Steve and Ben that I am looking forward to getting to know them even better in the months ahead. I stressed that they are always welcome at my home and that they should feel free to call me or come and see me at any time. I was moved by the prayerful seriousness of their commitment.
