diocese distributes catholic campaign funds
The Diocese of Belleville distributed $9,700 to agencies and institutions in southern Illinois from available Catholic Campaign for Human Development funds reserved for local distribution; requests for $54,000 were processed by the diocese’s Target committee. (The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the U.S. bishops’ campaign to address the causes of poverty in the country.
Funds were distributed to: St. Vincent de Paul’s Feeding Ministry and Thrift Store; Awakenings: a program addressing lifestyle changes for young offenders; Metro East’s Family Enrichment’s Financial Literacy Series; Catholic Social Services’ School Counseling program; Cairo’s Daystar Community’s Food Pantry; East St. Louis Catholic Day Care; Kujenga: a Catholic African American Youth Leadership program; Meredith Memorial Home; Catholic Urban Programs; Poverty Service’s Gear Up ministry for specific purchases not donated; Belleville area’s ecumenical Beacon program for furniture.
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development’s annual national collection is scheduled in parishes on the pre-Thanksgiving Nov. 21-22 weekend. Please see page 16 for advertisement and local information.
