Diocese to celebrate 125th anniversary with ‘Fanning the Flame,’
a journey of spiritual renewal
Faith: Perhaps the final frontier in a secular world yearning for a closer relationship with God and those who carry that spark of faith within.

g Jan. 12, 2012, the Diocese of Belleville will begin “Fanning the Flame” of faith through
a yearlong journey of spiritual renewal as part of the diocese’s 125th anniversary celebration.
Bishop Edward K. Braxton urges participation for those who seek “to learn their faith, to love their faith and to live their faith.”
For 36 weeks Fanning the Flame will take participants through the 36 chapters of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.
Each lesson will be explored and presented by a Chapter Guide — an ordained or lay member of the diocese who will share their insights in a variety of ways. These will be made available through your parish and the Fanning the Flame website (www.ftfdiobelle.org).
This opportunity can be accessed through “venues” (website, blog, Facebook, and Youtube pages), to expand faith sharing beyond the parish setting to other religious groups curious about Catholicism, to men and women seeking to understand the Catholic perspective on difficult issues, and especially to those who have drifted from the faith and who might return if given a chance to know it better.
As January approaches, watch for more details and updates on what Bishop Braxton has called “a new Pentecost” in the diocese.
