vincent gray finds a new home

After 29 years of providing opportunity for youngsters who had dropped out or been kicked out of local high schools, Vincent Gray Academy has acquired its own permanent home at l048 State St. in East St. Louis.

The school is not officially connected with the Catholic Church, but was founded by two Brothers of Mary and has usually had a Catholic priest, brother or sister as principal and many Jesuit or Vincentian volunteers as part of the faculty.

The school has provided high school diplomas to over 300 students in its years of operation. Twelve students received high school diplomas on June 7.

Having a Vincent Gray high school diploma has opened up many opportunities for employment and/or further education for young people who would have otherwise been trapped in low wage jobs or unemployment.

Principal, Father Dan Kearns, CM, is very excited about opening up the 30th year of operation in a permanent, owned home. Previously the school has been located at various donated sites including the former St. Patrick’s grade school, as well as in rented space.
