Holy Trinity School reaches out to Catholic school in Joplin, Mo.
Diane Britton from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Fairview Heights sent us a note about collecting food and money for the needy.
That’s something Catholics do on a very regular basis, you might say. These youngsters, their parents and school staff decided they wanted to do something for people in Joplin, Mo., whose lives were
dev
astated by the EF5 tornado that ripped through Joplin in the early
evening of May 23.
Britton a seventh- and eighth-grade religion teacher at Holy Trinity decided to Google Catholic schools in Joplin and discovered a church there, St. Mary’s, and its school was destroyed.
With that information, and after seeing a few photos on the internet, Britton set to work,
first calling a middle school there — St. Peter’s — and established her contact.
“Working quickly we were able to get our message to our students and parents,” Britton said. “We collected $836.00 and many ‘student made’ prayer cards” that were sent directly to the parish.
It should come as no surprise that this Catholic diocesan school acted quickly and decisively to bring comfort and whatever assistance they could to those in need.
As Catholics, that’s what we do very well, and it seems more and more often these days.
