Bishop Braxton appointed liaison to National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy

During the March 22-23 meeting of the Administrative Committee of the USCCB, Bishop Edward K. Braxton was selected as the liaison to the National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy by the Committee on Consecrated Life and Vocations.

The bishop is a member of that committee. As liaison to NOCERCC Bishop Braxton will be responsible for maintaining regular communication between the Bishops’ Conference and this organization which focuses on the ongoing education of Catholic clergy.

NOCERCC represents Roman Catholic dioceses and religious communities in the United States as well as institutions that serve clergy, dioceses, and religious communities within the U.S. and beyond. The purposes of NOCERCC are to promote the continuing formation of Roman Catholic clergy in this country; to relate to the Bishops’ Committee on Consecrated Life and Vocations; to serve directors of continuing education of clergy throughout the U.S. in carrying out their responsibilities in their local communities; to provide a forum for exchange of information, programs, resources, and ideas; to provide incentives and assistance for regional cooperation; and to conduct training programs for directors of clergy education.

The President of NOCERCC is Father Richard Chiola, the Pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish and Director of Ongoing Education for Priests in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.

Bishop Braxton succeeds the late Archbishop Basil Myron Schott, OFM, the Metropolitan of the Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic Church in America, and the Archbishop of Pittsburgh.
