Respect life office asks for comments
In an effort to raise awareness about conscience protection for health care workers, the diocesan Respect Life Office is asking people to read comments made by Cardinal Francis George of Chicago.
The comments urge Catholics to tell the Obama administration to keep conscience protections for healthcare workers.
An article detailing the cardinal’s message can be found on the Respect Life web site at www.respectlife.catholicweb.com.
Comments are asked to be sent by April 9. According to information from the Respect Life Office, “those who want to protect conscience rights can speak out through an action alert at www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection.
That address takes users to the official web site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops where more details would be available.
If conscience protections are not maintained through government regulations, health care workers could be asked to participate in procedures that go against the teachings of the Catholic church.
For more information go to the office’s web site or contact Laurie Edwards at the Respect Life Office at 235-9601, ext. 133.
