Guatemalan woman speaks out against government

She stood barely five feet tall and spoke softly through her interpreter; she carried a weighty message, one that she told many times over as often as people would listen.

Maria Teresa Sic de Mendoza brought a message to the people of St. Clare Parish in O’Fallon, telling them about murder and violence in her country that she witnessed in the early 1980s. The story is not new, but one of the men who might be her country’s president was intricately linked to the rape, torture and murders of her father, her husband, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
