Freedom Riders take immigration cause
to halls of Congress
Last stop near Cobden before heading to Washington, D.C.

After cross-country bus rides from 10 different cities, participants in the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride converged on Washington Oct. 2 with the goal of persuading members of Congress to take up their cause.

One of those buses — from Chicago — with 45 people aboard stopped near Cobden at the migrant workers’ camp. People were ready and waiting to welcome them to southern Illinois. It was the Chicago group’s last stop in Illinois before going on to Washington.
