pro-life activities scheduled in the diocese

Sept. 24: 40 Days for Life begins. This is a national campaign to pray for an end to abortion. Daily devotional prayers will be available at www.40daysforlife.org. (See October 15 below to participate with the Catholic Diocese of Belleville.)

Oct. 4: A Respect Life Mass, 9 a.m., Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave., Granite City, Ill., (Bishop George Lucas, celebrant) followed by a Rosary Walk and Prayer Vigil at the abortion clinic, concluding with lunch and a speaker from Priests for Life.

Oct. 5: Life Chain is a national one hour long (2-3 p.m.) peaceful and prayerful public witness to the sanctity of human life. Contact Linda Behnken, 632-8606, for information about the location nearest your community.

Oct. 11: Public Rosary, noon, Althoff Catholic High School, Belleville, sponsored by “America Needs Fatima.”

Oct. 15: Diocesan Day of Prayer. Meet at 8:10 a.m. at Holy Trinity, 505 Fountains Parkway, Fairview Heights for Mass, then carpool to the abortion clinic in Granite City to support the Springfield diocese in the 40 Days for Life,
returning at approximately noon. Eucharistic Adoration from 5 to 8 p.m. will take place at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Belleville, beginning and concluding with brief prayer services to encourage the respect for life in all stages and against all assaults.

Oct. 26: Respect Life Convention, hosted by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. (For more information call 314-792-7555.)
Check your parish for more opportunities to promote the respect of life from conception to natural death and all stages in between.
