The Agency Allocation and Accountability (AAA) Committee of the Catholic Service and Ministry Appeal (CSMA) met Feb. 9 in Mt. Vernon to review the funding requests from the agencies and ministries seeking support from the 2008 appeal.
The meeting began with a discussion of the projected revenues for the 2008 CSMA since this estimate is the basis for the allocation process.
The committee generally agreed that this year’s CSMA may not raise the funds to meet requests from the agencies and ministries requesting support.
Committee members reported their findings from the agency and ministry site visits conducted earlier this year and discussed that organization’s history and plans for the future.
In addition detailed budget information and financial projections were reviewed. Of particular interest to the committee was the percentage of each agency or ministry total budget funded by the CSMA.
As the committee reviewed all this information, the committee considered the appropriateness of the CSMA to provide funds in light of other potential funding sources available to that agency/ministry.
Members also considered the percentage of each group’s total funding that comes from the CSMA as well as how that funding is used by each agency or ministry to accomplish its work in the diocese.
Finally, as these considerations were applied to each agency or ministry, their requests were considered in light of projected revenue expected from the 2008 appeal.
Final recommendations for the allocation of funds from the 2008 CSMA will be made at the Feb. 23 meeting.
The committee is working to meet a March 1 deadline to make its final recommendations to the Diocesan Finance Council.
