Small Christian Communities offered materials on New Roman Missal for discussion, reflection
As the deadline for implementation of the Third Edition of the New Roman Missal approaches — Nov. 27 (the first Sunday of Advent) — the Diocese of Belleville, through the Office of Worship, is offering parishes materials for discussion, reflection and prayer about the changes that will go into effect.
Because this is the 10th anniversary of the introduction of Small Christian Communities in the diocese with RENEW, studying, discussing and praying about these changes through small Christian communities gives people a chance to prepare for these changes together.
These materials are being offered free of charge because they were prepared with assistance from the various offices in Region VII, which covers dioceses in Illinois and Indiana.
Jeanne Adamske, pastoral associate at St. Stephen’s in Caseyville led the Feb. 8 presentation on the materials.
People from a number of parishes were among the participants at the meeting, including representatives from liturgy committees, parish life coordinators and others active in their parishes who wanted more information about the materials and how to use them.
The materials presented follow an eight-week study of the changes being implemented in the fall, and are designed for use in small Christian communities but could be adapted for other groups, like confirmation classes, Adamske said.
Using the materials in small Christian communities through faith sharing opportunities offers people a way to learn and grow, Adamske said.
Participants were encouraged to think about other groups within their parishes who could also benefit from the materials, like parish councils, quilters, school faculties and the like.
