The Messenger is the Catholic newspaper for the Diocese of Belleville, Illinois which covers the southern 28 counties of Illinois. The paper, now celebrating its 100th anniversary, is delivered to about 10,000 paid subscribers by mail. Read our 100th Anniversary article here.
Advertising Policy
Paid advertisements are accepted by The Messenger. The editor, acting
under the direction of the publisher, shall have the final authority
to reject any ad deemed unacceptable. Political advertising is accepted
at The Messenger but will only be accepted from a candidate running
for a political office and/or the candidate’s election campaign
committee.
Letters to the Editor Policy
The Messenger welcomes Letters to the Editor. Letters to the editor
will be accepted and reviewed by the editorial staff. The Messenger
reserves the right to decide whether to print any letter addressed to
the editor. Further, The Messenger reserves the right to edit any letter
for content or length. Letters may not contain personal attacks on individuals.
No letters advocating voting for or against an individual will be accepted.
Letters must be signed and include a daytime telephone number for verification.
The Messenger publishes bi-weekly. One year subscriptions are $23.00.
Copy deadline is 10 days in advance for Special Sections and Supplements.
Copy deadline for our regular editions is noon on Wednesday prior to
publication date.
